We received our fist woo-hoo-we're-home-owners-and-now-we-have-to-pay-for-things-like-water bill a few days ago. In California (and maybe everywhere?) your electric, water, sewer, and refuse are all wrapped into one bill. Usually renters are only required to pay for electric, so I assumed utilities would be different with the house. I wasn't too worried, though, because we bought those fancy energy efficient appliances and we take short showers, and besides how much can trash and toilet services cost?
A lot, apparently.
Our bill SEXTUPLED (It's a word. I looked it up). And I'm pretty sure that's anything but average.
Now I know that when the grass looks greener on the other side, it's because someone's paying a lot of money for that sprinkler system.
Thanks, but no thanks.

omg, seriously -- trash service is EXPENSIVE! r and i don't have to pay for it, but we recently saw the fee schedule, and DANG. who knew? (apparently our landlords did, and now us, i suppose)
water for 10 minutes once a week.
anything that can't live on that... shouldn't live... in California...
also.
do laundry dishes... whatever you can during off peak hours... it costs less...
but for God sake... do not buy water saving shower heads... ;)
