Tomorrow Ben and I are starting a ten day sugar and gluten fast to cleanse our system of the candy gorging that we've been enjoying since...Halloween. It'll be like a low carb diet except we can eat fruit and apparently rice. I think. I hope.
I'll keep you posted. I'm a bit afraid I've already blown it because in anticipation of the fast, I've allowed myself more helpings of sugar and gluten. So, really, I'm gaining five pounds to lose five pounds. Awesome. Anyway, I'm enjoying one last cappuccino as I sit through a night class that is, in my opinion, cruel and unusual punishment.
Let the torture begin!

I Heart Jim (a different one)
I've just made a (belated) wonderful discovery: Jim Sturgess. He plays Jude in Across the Universe (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0445922/) and is also one of the main characters in the new movie, 21 ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478087/). He's got a lot going for him - looks, clearly, but also a good singing voice, and an accent. And we all know what a sucker I am for accents. But here's the kicker - most of my movie star crushes are based on the character, not the actor (i.e. Orlando Bloom as Legolas - he quickly lost his appeal once he stopped being an elf...but he did make a comeback as a dead pirate!). So, it remains to be seen if he can hold this celebrity crush position through his next film - you know, the one where he's not a hippy artist from the 60's singing some of my favorite Beatles songs.
Oh, another great find you should check out: Zooey Deschanel's cd, She & Him: Volume One. Charming!

Great Expectations!
My dear friend, Paige, just told me she's pregnant! And...so is her sister-in-law! Sister and brother are having babies three weeks apart! Is is just me or is it raining babies? We're so happy for you all! Congrats to Paige, Charles, Josh, and Leah!

All I needed was a pair of sunglasses...
And I left with 5 pairs of shoes, 2 bikinis, a sweater shell, a computer bag, and a new purse. This is what happens when I go underground for ten weeks and it's all school all the time, and then I return to the land of the living and roam the dangerous grounds of discount clothing stores and iTunes. So in a matter of few days I've slept forty hours, gone shopping two days in a row, cleaned out my closet and drawers (to make room for new clothes and shoes), organized the piles of papers that have been threatening to take over the guest room, backed up my computer (probably should have done this before finals), bought two cds, watched four movies (I highly recommend The Jane Austen Book Club and Dan in Real Life), and read half a dozen mindless magazines and half a book. I LOVE SPRING BREAK.

Life without a ring...
...is absurd. Really. I got hit on TWICE last week. And that doesn't usually happen, so I'm guessing the absence of the usual tell-tale sign of being taken is what's to blame. And it's an awful feeling, really. Here's two reasons why:
1) I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression, so instead of just interacting like a normal person would, I become a social retard and the situation becomes painfully awkward. Luckily, I've had a girlfriend with me both times who was able to rescue me from my idiot self.
2) Even if I wanted to play along and flirt a bit for kicks, I have no idea how. Aside from the standard catcalls Pasadena is known for, I'm not used to being approached or observed by strange men. When I was recounting this lack of flirting muscle to my good friend last night, she replied, "Well of course, you've been married since you were like thirteen!" Touche, Katie, touche. :)
So, Ben and I have devised a plan for the situation in case it presents itself again. We will have some previously agreed upon signal which he will interpret as, "Help me, help me, help me!" (He was in the room for Disaster Encounter #1 and took no heed of my nonverbal signals because he thought I was talking to some fellow Fuller guys). When I provide said signal, he will step up, interrupting whatever semblance of conversation is occurring and drop some lame line like, "If I told you that you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me." And I will respond with enthusiasm, jumping out the seat and grabbing his arm. Then we'll walk off together. Ben pointed out that it would suck if we wanted to stay, because that scene would call for us to actually leave the party/bar/restaurant, but I told him, "Heck no! How much funnier would it be if we just relocated to another corner of the room?!"
In the meanwhile, we're going to go ring shopping - not for another diamond, mind you, because I'm fully confident we'll come across it eventually, but for some quality piece that I'll continue wearing once the ring has been found. I'm thinking about another birthstone ring, a sapphire. Then I'll look cool because it will seem like I took Blood Diamond to heart and am protesting diamonds. And, as a White Person (http://wallyjack.blogspot.com/2008/02/ouch.html), I want to look cool like that.
