Ready or not!

Here I come! Jumping in with two (stiletto-ed) feet! Yesterday was my orientation at City of Hope. Today was my first day at APU and my first case assignment. Was I really at camp just last week? And MO the week before? Has anyone found my summer? Because I don't know where it went.

Some bits of internal dialogue I experienced throughout my day:

"Parking Lot E....Lot D...where the heck is Lot C?! Oh, that's right. The back forty...definitely going to have to use the tram. Who takes a tram to work, anyway? Me, that's who. With my fancy new name badge."

"Hmmm...this tram is like the stretch limo of golf carts."

"Shoot. I left the role of toilet paper at home."

"Wow. I think I might be the oldest person in this room. A first for my teaching career. Congratulations, Robin."

"These heels were a BIG mistake. I'm going barefoot."

"HOT! The pavement is hotter than hell! I hate Southern California."

"Sure I can test a 4 1/2 year old. They talk, right?"

"I wonder, if I was wealthy enough to afford a BMW, would I valet my car at work every day? Nah. That's like....$20 a week...$80 a month...almost $1,000 a YEAR!"

"I wish I had a wife. From 1950. Then I'd have dinner to look forward to when I get home."

Yep. It's been a pretty full day.

I started clerkship and teaching this week too. I feel exhausted. Do you? I was pretty proud that I was the oldest in the the room too :) When I realized that I am 7 years older than most of the students in my class (who are college freshman), it helped me to not feel as nervous. I mean I am getting old now ;) Although when I went to pick up my keys, the girl asked me if I was a student. When I mustered up my dignity and replied "no, I'm an adjunct professor", she replied "Oh, you look so young." I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a compliment or not.
